Welcome to
WELLS IN MOSAIC
The mosaic will be of national significance but a project of this size and quality does not come cheap, so all donations are very much appreciated, however large or small.

Current progress
We now have the full design printed and in Ruth’s workshop, she has started laying tiles onto the design and we have the very first section built and stored away. But don’t get too excited, because the design is a circle the first section is the smallest of them all; as she progresses towards the centre it will take longer & longer to complete each section!
The first picture shows the first section cut away, ready for storage
The second picture shows work on the next section. Note: this picture has been inverted so you can read the text, Ruth actually has to work with the design back-to-front, for techical reasons

MEET OUR TEAM
Steve Wilson
“I really believe that everyone should get involved with at least one community project in the area where they live, and I’m passionate about bringing this unique piece of art to Wells for many future generations of locals and visitors to enjoy”
Ruth Ames-White
“Wells in Mosaic is a fantastic project and one I feel hugely privileged to be designing and creating for our wonderful city.”

Philip Welch
After serving as editor of the Wells Journal, four other Somerset weekly newspapers and their associated websites for 16 years, Philip is allegedly retired. Now Philip devotes his time to voluntary work and his wife Caroline says he is busier now than in full-time employment. His responsibilities include Vice-chair of Wells Civic Society, organiser of a series of Blue Plaques around Wells, Vice-chair of the Heads Up mental health charity’s trustees, founder member of the Campaign to Make Wells a Dementia Friendly City, presenter on GFM community radio, trustee of Somerset Spark, Ambassador to Wells Girlguiding, and an organiser of Wells SOUP which raises money for local charities.
“This will be one of the most impressive mosaics in Britain.”
Chris Winter
“As chair of Wells Civic Society, I was delighted to be able to give our complete support to this ambitious project. I believe that public art should represent contemporary design and skills as well as examples from the past, which are so well represented in Wells. I hope I can help bring this project to fruition with other members of the team and the people of Wells, for the enjoyment, and even education, of many generations of residents and visitors to Wells.”

Ian Ames-White
“Public Art is an important aspect of any community & to be involved in this project, providing a superb heritage for Wells, is incredibly exciting.”
